SG General Assembly- Sh. Faraz Rabbani
General Assembly notes
Shaykh Faraz
Imam Zarmuji- Talim mualim
–it is befitting for the one who is learning to intend through their seeking of knowledge, the pleasure of Allah (over arching intention) and the next Abode, (dar al-akhira), and to remove ignorance from oneself, (wa izana jahil nafisihi) and also to life ignorance from those who have no knowledge and revive the deen, (ihya ad-din) and (ibqa al-islam) preserve the religion of Islam. For the foundation of Islam is upon knowledge.
Piety is not possible without knowledge
Knowledge is only sought to act upon it. And acting is to leave what is temporary for what is eternal. -Imam Abu Hanifa
CLARITY
PRIORITY
laan tanil ilmun…
-My dear friend you will not attain knowledge except with 6 matters: intelligence, avidness, resolute patience, provision, guidance of a teacher and a long time
intelligence: good knowledge habits is how its acquired
Abu Hanifa to Hasan: You were dull and we made you sharp!
hirs (avidness): ihris al-yanfa’u, be avid for all that benefits, submit yourself and help others, and bring Sunnah into your life
when you are on the path of knowledge, the angels lowers their wings for you to wake upon, they glorify you in the heavens, birds sing your praises and fish in the sea make dua to Allah for you–all of creation was created for Allah SWT to be worshipped, and knowledge is the way to path of Allah.
istibar (resolute patience) Ale Imran: 200, ya ayuhaladhinia…isbiru, (be comitted to patience)
great virtue of Islam is to negate your own will, for the will of Allah.
I hope you had a good weekend, I was too busy to worry about that?
Feelings are like the weather, can’t do anything about it.
3 excuses: extreme sickness, travel and death
bulgha (provision); financial commitments
irshadu ustaadh (instruction of a teacher):
knowledge if conjoined with awe is for you, otherwise against you
-ibn ata’illah

Seekers Guidance General Assembly Meeting- Sh. Yahya Rhodus
Shaykh Yahya 50 mins
from SG General Assembly meeting
wa an ajibtu amilu khayr
“I’m amazed about the affair of my believer it is all good”
-hadith
“God bears witness that there is no God but Him”, wa malaikatu wa ulu al-ilm
-Quran
angels and the people of knowledge are witness this too and believe in this, (ulu al-ilm) the people of knowledge is stemming from a divine manifestation as the hearts perceive this,
“I knew my Lord through my Lord.”
Everything done for Allah will continue. Anything that is done for other than the sake of Allah will be cut off and disconnected.
kitab al-ilm of ihya ulum din: all volumes are based on knowledge, we are blessed to still have the true religios epistemology on the face of this Earth through the blessing of Muhammad salallahu alayhi wasalam
Nabi salallahu alayhi wasalam used to make dua: “Oh Allah, show me things as they really are.“
Muadh bin Jabal: sometimes attributed to Prophet salallahu alayhi wasalam Narration comprehensive statement on the virtue of ilm:
“Merit of talim and teaching, talum al-ilm and ta’lum, learn knowledge inna talimu lillahi khashya when you learn it for Allah, it is khashya (fear or beyond fear, reverential awe). And seeking knowledge is ibadah (wa talabuhu ibada)
yaghshallaha min ibadihi ulema- only the learned who have khashya (35:28)
-Quran
Muadh bin Jabal, r.a: “Learn ‘ILM – For learning increases Khashya of Allah swt; Seeking it is ‘ibaadah; Discussing it is Tasbeeh; striving in searching for it is Jihaad; Teaching it to those who do not know is Sadaqah; Serving the scholars brings closeness to Allah, swt; It is a solace in solitude and a companion in seclusion”
To Sayydiuna Umar: Be in the dunya as if he was a stranger or wayfarer, if you enter into the morning don’t expect to live into the evening, don’t wait into the evening.
–puts everything into perspective; and make everything difficult easy for you, realigns with everything in its proper perspective
itna la yashfan, talib al-ilm wa talib ud-dunya
Two people will never become satiated: seeker of dunya and seeker of ilm
Anyone who set out on a Path of knowledge God will make easy for them a path to Paradise
-hadith (you can’t do it on yourself, you will be slammed and you will have despair, so alhamdulillah we have a Lord who guides us)–do it regularly
Everything should keep a notebook, because Allah is going to give you everything for your provision, write down and use notebooks, write down insights and questions…notebooks of fada’il, important for you in particular
Imam Ghazali and brigands story led to him memorizing everything down. “What knowledge do you truly possess?”
Take notes as if you will teach it after.
Whoever has death come to him, when he is actively seeking knowledge of Islam, between him and the Prophet salallahu alayhi wasalam will be one degree. -hadith
(actively seeking knowledge, and intention is to bring light to Islam)
Allahu alladhi khalaqa saba samawatin wa minal ardhi mithlahunna yatanazzalu al al amru baynahunna li tala’mu innalla al kulli shayin qadir wa innallaha qad ahata bi kulli shayin ‘ilma
–God created the 7 heavens and the like of the earths…in order that you may know, lima ta’lamu, bi kulli shay’in ilma. -Quran 65:12
(65:12) It is Allah Who has created seven heavens and of the earth the like thereof (i.e. seven). His Command descends between them (heavens and earth), that you may know that Allah has power over all things, and that Allah surrounds (comprehends) all things in (His) Knowledge.
Make knowledge an excuse for other things
And do not make other things, an excuse for knowledge
And know that through knowledge and worship by certainty they are the means to felicity
And that is what remains for you in the next world so purify it and stick to it before you die
-Ahmad Zain al-Habashi 1 2
Ahmad Zain al-Habashi (maqam qutbiya): At age of 70: wallahi la yastahi al-ilm the only desire I have is for knowledge
In dream: “My soul was taken by the angel of death and I didn’t even know it because I was preoccupied with an issue” better to do tawaf on a camel or not.” To meet Allah knowing this knowledge is more beloved to me than anything else!
Ba-alawi tradition: teacher was in pangs of death, studying with students, on chapter on menstruation, asked them to research it, he then lost consciousness and woke and asked if they found out the answer and they said no we are
you never leave the (lahad) inkwell until the time you are born until you die (maqbara)
and reviewing it with one another is tasbih, researching ilm is jihad
man kharaja bi baytihi fahu fisabilillah
whoever goes out of the house seeking knowledge they are in the path of Allah
-hadith, death of martyr
teaching is sadaqa, and giving to people who are deserving it is a qurba (offering, means of drawing close to Allah)
reading is a means through Unsbillah ( intimacy with Allah(swt) ) Subhan Allah
friend when alone, and companion in seclusion,
(you can be all by yourself, is like your intimate partner)
guide (dalil) in the deen, and musabir(helps you have sabr) in times of ease and difficulty
…your relative literally, and lighthouse to the path to paradise (manar)
through knowledge Allah will raise people (hasan al-basri was a freed slave (muwali), ata ibn rabi’ were freed slave, and bilal stood ontop of the kaaba and gave adhan), makes people’s leaders and guides, people follow them and they lead to good, people follow their footprints/traces and people watch closely to what they do, even the angels desire to be close to them and from them, they touch them with their wings,
Sahabas said: We tried with defeat we were able to be patient, we were tried with victory and we weren’t able to be patient
hadith: innal malaika lati’dha ajnihata li talibul ilm ridan bima yasna angels lowers their wings out of contentment for what they are doing; (meaning: will help them, walking on their wings, and sign of humility to the pursuit of knowledge)
Imam az-Zabidi: a story of a few hadith scholars walking and some fool laughed at them, and said, “Be careful how you walk don’t break the wings of the angels!” He froze and feet became like concrete and feel over.
In biography of Imam Haddad: in a mosque he ascended to sidratul muntaha, in his ruh, and described it.
“Just as a flash flood will be an enemy of a high place, likewise, knowledge is an enemy to an ignorant person”
every mt and dry things seek forgiveness for them, even the creatures in sea and ocean, the predatory beast, camels, the goats, as well as heaven and the stars
knowledge is the light of the heart from blindness and the lightness of our inner sight from shadows and darkness and the strength of our body from weakness, through this knowledge the servant will attain rank of righteous…studying with one another is like standing in prayer, through knowledge God is obedied, through it worshipped, and through it His divine unity declared, and through it one gains scrupulousness and through it family links are connected and through it knows the halal and haram
The most knowledge of are knowledge of halal and haram is Muadh bin Jabal
su’ada–the felicitous are inspired by it, the wretched are prevented from it.
And we ask Allah for feliciting grace. Closing duas.
Subhana kallahumma wa bihamdika ash-haduana la illaha illala ant astaghfiruka wa atubu ilayk, ameen.
